The last FiL With Sound! (For now?)
Yes, it’s true. I’ve decided to put an end to FiL With Sound. So this was my Second Anniversary/Final Show/Birthday Tribute to Pete Seeger. Pete turned 90 a few days ago, and I spent an hour playing songs from, for, and popularized by one of the titans of American folk music.
The HearNewBrunswick studios are currently in limbo, so I did my show from NPN Studios in Clifton, NJ.
Technical note: I screwed up the beginning of the show, so the podcast starts midway into the first song.
This week on FiL With Sound, I spent some time talking with two of the Rutgers students who are organizing this year’s New Jersey Folk Festival, which takes place this Saturday (4/25) on Rutgers’ Douglass Campus. The rest of the show was heavy on new and newsih music.
For my 100th episode I played 100 songs in two hours. I’m not sure how well it worked as a listening experience, but it was fun to put together!
In honor of sitar master Ravi Shankar’s birthday, I played two hours of my favorite sitar- and electric-sitar-powered rock, pop, and folk songs.
Lots of new music this week, from the likes of John Wesley Harding, Jill Sobule, Jason Lytle, Neko Case, and more. Plus a tribute Motown drummer Uriel Jones, who passed away on March 24.
This week’s episode of FiL With Sound was brought to you by Nick Lowe’s birthday, the start of Spring, and the color green.
For St. Patrick’s Day, two hours of music from and about Ireland.
